Frequently Asked Questions about
Anxiety Therapy and Trauma Therapy

Q: What are sessions like?

A: Sessions are held on a confidential, secure telehealth platform so we can both see and hear each other from your smart phone or computer. We will always start where you are, exploring what brings you to therapy and how you’d like to see things change. We then set goals together for how to get you there. We will go at your pace and always within your comfort level. We are partners throughout therapy with the shared goal of helping you heal, gain understanding and create a path moving forward.

Q: What do we do in sessions?

A: First I get to know a bit more about you and what brings you to therapy. We then discuss your goals for therapy and determine a treatment plan to guide our way. And next, we begin. What does this look like? It’s a mixture of talking and exploring, teaching and learning, testing things out for fit and adjusting them as needed. Some approaches are interactive and some focus more on connecting with yourself from within, with a little guidance along the way. You are always the captain of your ship so we down and up shift depending on your comfort level and feedback. Lines of communication are always open and honored.

Q: How long do I need therapy?

A: Much of that has to do with you. The length of time is adjusted to your needs and can be as brief as a few months and as long as a year or more depending upon what you bring to therapy, the pace you feel most comfortable with and the goals you set. I typically recommend starting off with once/week sessions, but this can also be tailored to your needs etc.

Q: How do I know if therapy will work for me?

A: The most direct answer is - you’ve got to give it try. I’ll admit I’m biased, but I’ve seen fantastic recovery, healing and growth, time and time again, both in my personal and professional practices. I wouldn’t be in this helping profession if I hadn’t. I have faith that every human being has the innate ability to heal and find balance. Sometimes we just need help along the way. This is why I chose to participate in specialty training in the evidence-based approaches I found most effective to treat anxiety, trauma and adjustment to difficult changes.
